Barack Hussein Obama II was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961, to an American mother and a Kenyan father. At age of 6, he moved to Indonesia with his parents and was there for 4 years. In 1971, he returned to Honolulu and stayed with his maternal grandparents. After graduating from high school, he moved to LA for college in 1979. After his graduation in 1983, he worked as financial researcher and writer and then as a project coordinator in New York City.

Barack  Obama initiated his own political career.  In 1996, he was elected to the Illinois Senate where he won as a Democrat from the Southside neighborhood of Hyde Park. In drafting legislation on ethics & health care reform he extended his support to both Democrats & Republicans. He had a major contribution in creating a state earned income tax credit which was an advantage to the working poor. He also encouraged subsidies for early childhood education programs. Family life

Obama married Michelle Robinson on October 3, 1992 after dating her for 3 years. Their first daughter, Malia Ann, was born in 1998 and the second daughter, Natasha ("Sasha"), in 2001.
